College Planning and Essay Preparation
Session focuses on listening to both the parent(s) and the student.
Colleges look at more than grades and SAT scores. We help the student develop and evolve as they begin to make their first adult decision.
PLANNING PHASE
The planning phase focuses on searching colleges based upon specific criteria that the student evaluates and determines if the college or university is the right fit for them.
TIMELINE
Both students and parents work as a team to gather required documents such as test scores and grade transcripts that might need to be submitted prior to the application. All portfolio documents are prepared and submitted according to the required application deadlines.
PREPARATION
During this phase the student begins to focus on making college visits. Appointments are made with admissions for tours and interviews. We prepare the student for the college interview. Plans are also made to meet with faculty, and coaches if appropriate. Selections are finalized.
APPLICATION
In this area we assist the student with brainstorming a topic for the college essay. Editing and formatting finalizes this document to make it ready for submission according to the college’s requirements.
PORTFOLIO
The application packets are completed for each college and submitted according to the college requirements and deadlines. Beacon Resources generally recommends the early decision process.
